Hi there, nice to meet you!
We are Reinout and Sabine. We're a Dutch couple that decided to take three months off, get our hands on a car, rooftent and explore the South America! We have to be honest: aside from the occasional three-day festival, or a few surftrips back in Europe, we had zero to none experience with driving 4x4s, camping or rooftents. As it turns out: we love it! (And we still love each other, so we got through that test as well :-)....). So, we might be just the living proof that our beloved Manon (our car) is indeed idiot proof!
In the proces of getting the car and all the right paperswork (and stamps...because oh boy, the chileans love their stamps), we can and would love to help you out.
Back in Holland (back in the real, cold, rainy, under sealevel life) we both have our own companies. Reinout is an industrial designer. He is currently setting up a company called Takecarebnb.com (yep, inspired by AirBnB) that finds housing for refugee amongst Dutch locals so they can start building a network in Holland. Sabine is a cultural anthropologists. She is one of the co-founders of BlueCity, a sustainable initiative in Rotterdam that focuses primarily on making new products from waste. Having lived a year in Spain and a lot of travelling through Latin-America on previous occasions, Sabine speaks Spanish which was quite helpful going through the proces of getting the car.
We've been through the proces of getting all sorts of information, visited a shitload of notaries etc, but now know through experience what you should do and what not. This might very well save you well over a week! Same goes for tips and cool places we accidentically ended up, blogs that were usefull and loads of other tips.
